Departure details

Departs at 06:00 to catch the morning train crossing the Nine Arch Bridge. A second departure at 14:30 is available but the train crossing is not guaranteed at this time.

Know before you go

Wear comfortable hiking shoes. The paths through the estate can be muddy and slippery after rain.
Bring a warm layer — at 1,000 metres elevation, early mornings in the hills can be surprisingly cool.

Itinerary

Pre-Dawn Walk to the Bridge

Stop: 30 minutes

Set off before first light through sleeping Ella town, following a narrow path through tea bushes as the sky begins to lighten.

Nine Arch Bridge — Sunrise & Train Crossing

Stop: 60 minutes

Arrive at the bridge viewpoint as dawn breaks over the valley. Your guide knows the train timetable precisely — position yourself for the perfect shot as the blue train crosses the nine stone arches through the morning mist.

Tea Estate Walk & Leaf Plucking

Stop: 60 minutes

Walk through the working tea estate. Learn to identify the correct two leaves and a bud, and try your hand at plucking alongside the estate workers.

Tea Factory Visit

Stop: 45 minutes

See inside a functioning tea factory. Your guide explains the withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and grading process from fresh leaf to finished Orthodox Ceylon tea.

Tea Tasting & Return

Stop: 30 minutes

Sit down for a cupped tasting of the estate's teas — from OP (Orange Pekoe) to BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe). Then return to Ella town at a relaxed pace.
